Summertime and a Toddler

Summer in Arizona isn't really summer until you've gone swimming! And the only way to really keep cool without running up the AC bill is to be in the water. I also want Lincoln to love the water as much as I do, so of course I set up this (somewhat amateur) fun water station and what does Lincoln do? Try to get back inside...

So in order to change lincoln's sad disinterest of water, I put him in swim lessons!

just learning how to climb out of the pool with Ashtyn

On random mornings or evenings when its a little cooler
we love to take Lincoln in his wagon
He's totally obsessed!

And even though it may not seem so, Jay really likes it too.

Obviously, I love to be outside. Lincoln and I are used to a routine walk in the morning and a bike ride in the evening every day, so now that those are no longer viable options we end up
being cooped up in the house all day and we get a little bored...

or we just watch tv...

So splash pads and playdates have become a new way of life for me this summer.

One of Lincoln's best friends is sweet little Ashtyn!

Ice cream is our alternative way to cool off

And when we can have it with Grammy and Grandpa, it's even better!
(He's most likely pointing at a car)
since this kid can't sit still and his feet were too fat for his current shoes, bare feet on asphalt was the only way to go...

A few months ago I decided to pull out my old camera from my High School photography class and see what I could do... Come to find out, it's not a major talent of mine... but I got a few fun shots. It was also quite a challenge to get the film developed. I went to a few places just to find out that my film could only get developed at a place in Tempe. I came to the conclusion that I'll just get myself a digital camera some day.

He wasn't a fan of the intense flash.

Whenever I get the chance, I like to visit my parents in Phoenix. Without fail, there is always some interesting activity going on, and the 4th of July was no exception. My dad (always working) was fixing lights in the back of the church and decided to show Lincoln what it was all about. Luckily, Lincoln is such a BOY he loved it- because anything that goes "vroom" requires his attention.

He had his first popsicle that night

And it was in no better setting than in front of my mother's American Flag painted shed
For some strange reason Lincoln got bored and decided to paint my skin with the ice cold popsicle.

At Ashtyn's first birthday party Lincoln experienced his first "Bounce House"

AND what's summer without a few bugs...
I came downstairs one afternoon to find a scorpion in my ceiling fan! Being creeped out by any bug and totally terrified of scorpions... I found some volunteers to exterminate. Annoyingly enough they had to take the fan apart to get to it...

To my total relief, we have recently had pest control at our home

Lincoln's second round of swim lessons are being taught by one of our favorite friends, Michelle! She is the only one that can get a high five out of him... truly, most people get snubbed.

And of course this particular lesson was not as important as the planes flying overhead, thus all the pointing and waving.

A week ago we went on our very first "'Family Vacation"! Finally! Ken and I have never gone anywhere (just us) except our honeymoon.
Granted we stayed in Imperial Beach with some friends, but it still counts in my book.

the drive there was pretty smooth. Lincoln napped, woke up happy and we only had to stop (unplanned) once. Poopy diapers are no joke in a car when your swaying back and forth up a windy mountain. I'm getting car sick just thinking about it again...

Lincoln's first beach visit was a total success! He loved the sand and ran straight for the water without hesitating. I guess we'll be moving to Cali now!

Lincoln slept like a champ... sometimes.

Having his nap interrupted didn't make our second beach visit as pleasant as the first

As you can see Lincoln is angrily pushing my face because I must be doing something he doesn't like...
Nonetheless, the beach is still #1 on my list of places to vacay!

This was my first visit to Downtown San Diego. Sea food at "Anthony's" and all kinds of ships (that I'd never seen before) to keep Lincoln entertained.

Our drive home was a bit of a nightmare, but after a stop at Firehouse Subs we got home ok.

The other night we tried out some indoor batting cages with some friends.
we just took turns chasing Lincoln around and batting. I was happily surprised with how many (slow pitch) softballs I actually hit.

Lincolns entertainment for the night was some strange pirate ship that killed zombies?

Sadly, I didn't get any lovely shots of us in our helmets, but lincoln looked so cute in his baseball cap I had to post something.
